Student groups play a central role in the graduate student experience and are one of the best ways to get involved at NYU Wagner. These organizations provide a space where students can explore shared interests, develop new skills, and engage with public service challenges beyond the classroom. All student groups at NYU Wagner are open and welcoming to all students.
At the center of student life is the Wagner Student Association (WSA), the elected student government that represents the interests of the Wagner community. WSA advocates for students, supports leadership development, and manages funding for other student organizations. They also organize community-building events and facilitate coordination across groups.
Overall, we have more than 25 student groups that are broken into 3 categories:
- Program and specialization-based groups
- Identity-based groups
- Professional interest groups
Program and Specialization-Based Groups
Many Wagner student organizations are connected to specific programs and specializations. These groups help students explore topics related to their coursework while connecting with peers who share similar academic and career interests. They’ll often host panel discussions, speaker events, and networking opportunities with alumni.

Identity-Based Organizations
Several student groups focus on creating supportive spaces for students with shared identities and experiences. These orgs foster community and encourage meaningful conversations around identity and representation in public service. They often host cultural events, community gatherings, and discussions around equity and inclusion. Students can build strong support networks while also advocating for issues that affect their communities.

Professional and Career-Oriented Groups
Professional interest groups allow students to explore career pathways and connect with others pursuing similar professional goals. These organizations frequently organize networking events, career panels, and workshops that help students build skills and expand their professional networks.
